- Kromeriz
- Thanks to the sights and valuable architecture Kroměříž is called Hanácké Athény. In 1995 the historical centre and gardens were declared Preserve and National Cultural Monument. In december 1998 it was placed on the UNESCO list. In the 12th century there was a settlement called Krome-sir on the map of Moravia. In 13th century this place was chosen by bishop Bruno von Schaumburk who built up residence and feudal system on Moravia. He enclosed the town by the walls, colonized labor and built up The St. Maurice Church and the willage became a town. During the Thirty years´ war the town was destroyed as well as the chateau while Swedish army invasion in 1643. Bishop Karel Lichtenstein accomplished to rebuild the town with the help of Italian architects and artists in quite short time and he also managed to build a chateau on the place of former palace and two gardens.
- The Archiepiscopal Chateu
The former castle of the 13th century as well as the chateau was built for the Olomouc bishops as a feudal residence. There is a music archive which belongs to the most important funds in the Czech Republic. It contains famous 18th and 19the century composers´ pieces. In the gallery there are the paintings of Gottic to Baroque style. The most significant painting is „Apollo and Marsyas“ by Tizian Vecelli. There is also a library in the chateau that belongs to the most significant ones. The Assembly Hall is the memory of the Austrian Constitutional Assembly of 1848-49. Up to the present day there are arranged the concerts, music festivals and conferences.- The Chateau garden and the Flower garden
- It was founded in 1509 and in the 17th century it was rebuilt in Baroque style as the unique conjunction of chateau. In the 19th century it was enlarged to 64 hectares. You can find the Pompeian Colonnade, a little zoo, the Fishing Pavillionand the Colloredo Colonnade. The flower garden was founded in the 17the century and then it was imporved by the architects Lutsches and Tencalla. Visitors can find the Rotunda with Foucault pendulum, the Colonnade and the aviary.
- The Museum of Kromeriz
- The memorial of Max Švabinský, famous native painter from Kroměříž, was opened in October 1976 as a still exposition of the museum. In 2002 the greatest change so far has been started by a scholar of fine art Jana Orlíková. It influences the appearance, contant and equipment of the memorial.
- Churches in Kromeriz
- The church of Assumption of the Blassed Virgin Mary – after the reconstruction the core and its tower still remains. The church of John the Baptist – former church in Romanic style with components of Gothic style. It is said to be one of the most beautiful 18the century cathedrals in Moravia. The St. Maurice Church – former Gothic building was founded by Bruno von Schaumburk. From 1516 the apparance was changing after Hussite wars – cross vault, the portal of 1582, the Baroque Marian chapel of 1763. Today´s appearance comes from the reconstruction in 1936-1848.
- The Episkopal Mint
The first coins in episkopal mint, founded by bishop Kastelkorn, were stamped in summer 1666. Another important point in time was 1669 when the first gold medal was stamped here. Thanks to Marie Theresa the mint was closed at the end of 18th century.- Large square in Kromeriz
- Large square lies in the middle of historical part of the town. It was founded by Bruno von Schaumburk, originally as a market, 1 hectare in size. After the plague epidemics of 1680 the Baroque Marian column was built here. Adjoining houses with the arcades retain former Early Baroque facades and Renaissance disposition.
- The Rieger Square
The oldest square in Kroměříž. It was named after a scholar and statesman František Rieger. You can find the Church of the Assumption of the Blassed Virgin Mary, pubs, winerooms, different shops, goldsmith´s here. Large Square is just 200 metres far from this square.- The Stojan Square
- It is named after the Olomouc archibishop Antonín Cyril Stojan (1851-1923). There is also the St. Maurice Church and so-called „Old Vicar House“ with the Renaissance centre.
- The Salt Cave Halos Salon
- The salt cave provides sea climate during the whole year. Curative, preventive, regenerative and relaxing effects of salt from Dead Sea and rock-salt are well-known today. Apart from negative ionizin, which is very healhy, the air in the cave is enriched by iodine, kalium, calcium, magnesium, selenium, bromine and other different elements. The cave is also convenient for children who can play with a lot of toys here.
- Sport Centre Paráda
- Provides plenty of sport enjoyment – badminton, bowling, squash, golf, spinning, h.e.a.t., ricochet, table tennis and others. It is not only about active enjoyment. It also provides relaxing and beautifying procedure – solarium, hairdresser´s, pedicure, manicure, massage and others.
- Sport Centre Zapletal
- You can find two squash courts, fitness centre, gym, you can play snooker, ping pong etc. here. You can relax in sauna, whirpool or solarium. Finally you can freshen up with good drink or meal in non-smoking part of the centre.
